At the beginning of every new year, for the past few years, God has instructed me to give something up.
Read more: SanctificationIn 2023 it was the video game, Grand Theft Auto. In 2024 it was certain types of music. And in 2025 He’s instructing me to be extremely mindful of the things that come out of my mouth.
I didn’t know what this process was called until I saw this passage in 1 Thessalonians this morning:
“And may the God of peace Himself sanctify you through and through [separate you from profane things, make you pure and wholly consecrated to God]; and may your spirit and soul and body be preserved sound and complete [and found] blameless at the coming of our Lord Jesus Christ (the Messiah).”
1 Thessalonians 5:23 AMPC
This is called Sanctification. A lot of Christians think that sanctification happens the moment you give your life to Christ, but it doesn’t. Sanctification is the process of separating us from the things that God does not like. This process takes place over time as we continue to grow in our Faith.
Through this process, God is preparing not only our spirits, but our souls and our bodies for the return of our Lord, Jesus Christ; so that we will be complete, lacking nothing, in that coming day.
Love. Faith. Endurance.
